CONVERSIONS & PENALTIES

Mikey Firth X2 conversions & X1 penalties

A tough one to take as we start our league season with a narrow, last-minute defeat, but there are so many positives to take from today’s performance.

Words from Head Coach Mikey Firth:

“Some absolutely fantastic efforts from the boys today. Although we lost, we gained plenty of positives from the fixture.

We had four U18 Colts make their competitive debuts for the club, alongside more players making their debuts, and plenty of lads stepping up and playing out of position.

We also realised the coach can’t play 10 anymore! But more importantly, a few performances really opened some eyes today.

A special mention has to go to our smallest sub but one of our biggest impacts, Jamie Owens. Forever leading from the front and causing real problems for the opposition in attack, defence and at the set piece.

Another special mention for our skipper, Liam Hands. A performance that was simply about leading from the front for 80 minutes. With our backs against the wall, Handsy stood up. Two tries — should’ve been three, but never mind!

Every player who pulled on the Castleford shirt today was a massive positive for this club. The passion shown both on and off the field showed just how much these lads care, and that is a great feeling to have back.

We regroup. We work. We go again.

Couldn’t be prouder as a coach.”

A painful result, but plenty to build on. This is only the beginning.
